Philco Model 84


This is what it looked like when I got it.






The Model 84 was a performance improvement over the Model 80.
One of the improvements was a wire from the plate of the first 77 tube
to the antenna input. The wire was not soldered to the input, but
wrapped around the wire. You can see that wire in the center of this
picture. Look at the wire from the volume control. Yes, the volume control...
In the 80 and 84 the volume control actually was an RF attenuator on the
antenna input!


Many capacitors have been replaced years ago, but what a mess. Some of the
joints have pea sized balls of solder. It is fairly clean, at least on the bottom.
